A policy advocacy group, the Think Tank on Nigeria, has suggested that political offices should be made less attractive if the fight against corruption is to be achieved.

The group which gave its advice on the best way to fight corruption in Nigeria also stressed the need to strengthen the legal and institutional framework in the country.

The above is part of the presentation of TTON which parades an acclaimed membership of over 250 professionals from different geo-political zones of Nigeria.

The advocacy group, in a communique adopted by the 84 members present, stressed the need to introduce and enforce anti-corruption laws and regulations in the country, adding that independent institutions should be established to investigate and prosecute corruption cases. should be constructed.

The meeting, convened by Didelu Falobi, also urged the government to ensure that its activities and decision-making processes are transparent and open to public scrutiny.

The release further said, “Increasing public awareness about procedures and bureaucracy at all levels will create an enabling environment for citizens to speak up. Tax status of those who have questionable assets should be probed. Also, to discourage wealth inequality, the tax percentage for the very rich should be higher than for the common man.

“To combat corruption, those involved in oversight functions must avoid all forms of corruption. Meritocracy must be promoted in all sectors, and probity, fairness, transparency, openness, equity and accountability must not be compromised .

“To reduce the demand there should be drastic reduction in the supply chain of corruption elements. Laws need to be implemented and implemented with strong-willed good leaders in office,” TTON said.
Continuing, it asserted, “It is also important to have a just society with fair and practical laws for all citizens.

“Checks and balances need to be established to curb corruption, and best practices from other countries must be implemented. Psychologists can be engaged to develop methods in which the minds of citizens can be re-engineered.” It can be said that corruption is the curse of the society which affects the development of a nation.
