Benue Security Organization loses nine personnel in attack by herdsmen – Punch Newspaper

The Benue State security organization known as the Community Volunteer Guards has lost nine of its personnel.

This was disclosed by the Commander of the Guard, Capt. Ayuma Ajobi (Retd.) during the inauguration of the Headquarters Office Complex located inside the Government Headquarters on Friday.

The State Security Organization was inaugurated in August 2022 with the objective of supplementing the traditional security personnel in dealing with the insecurities arising out of attacks by herdsmen.

The commander said that the state government was able to procure only 1,000 pump action rifles for the personnel, six of which were stolen from the dead members.

Ajobi said, “The command has unfortunately suffered the casualty figure of nine of its trained personnel. Of this number, eight were killed in active service at their various duty stations while the last member died after a brief illness.

“The Benue State government has procured a total of 1,000 (one thousand) pump action rifles and 20,000 cartridges.

“These were given to the Nigeria Police Benue State Command for safekeeping in the police armoury. The weapons have been distributed to various divisions in the state’s 23 local government areas for protective custody.
