The National Federation of Nigerian Students has said that the sale of ordinary National Diploma certificates by some institutions to students is the reason for the recent crisis reported during the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board 2023 Direct Entry registration process.
NANS Vice President, Foreign Affairs, Mr. Babatunde Akinteya made this known in a statement.
PUNCH reported that some students who wanted to register for DE could not do so due to the lack of number of registration centers and thus, were found sleeping in front of the JAMB office in Ikoyi, Lagos. demand.
Akintye pointed out that JAMB reduced the number of registration centers for direct admission after it was discovered that some tertiary institutions were selling OND certificates to students.
He commended JAMB for its promptness in dealing with malpractices in the education sector.
Akintye revealed that the unhealthy practice had been going on for some time, adding that JAMB proceeded to streamline registration centers to curb the act and ensure proper monitoring and supervision.
“About two weeks ago, acting on a piece of information, I went with my team to the JAMB office at Ikoyi in Lagos at about 11 am and I was sleeping outside the office to meet potential direct entry candidates. completion and a completion date that was in earnest.
“I was forced to call JAMB as an agency, and a meeting was convened. It was in this meeting itself that it was explained to us that due to ongoing abnormalities in some tertiary institutions the registration centers were reduced I went.
“Some students bought Common National Diploma certificates and then used it to get their direct admission forms to start at higher levels in various institutions of higher education.
He said, “I want to inform the institutions of higher education across the country and abroad, who are guilty in this certificate sale saga, that we are compiling their names and we will expose them all in record time. ”
He also urged Nigerian students to avoid cutting corners and desist from all acts capable of compromising their future.
“I want to seize this opportunity to state that we stand with JAMB in all that it is doing to sanctify the education system of our country.”
