She is the incumbent Member of Parliament from Mainpuri since December 2022, and has prior served as Member of the Lok Sabha for 2 terms from Kannauj. She is the wife of Samajwadi Party president and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav. Dimple is the daughter-in-law of Late Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Defence Minister of India, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and founder-patron of the Samajwadi Party.

Dimple Yadav was born on 15 January 1978 at Pune, Maharashtra. She is the 2nd of 3 girls of retired Indian Army Col. Ram Chandra Singh Rawat and Champa Rawat. Her family is originally from Uttarakhand. She was studied in Pune, Bathinda & Andaman and Nicobar island and Army Public School, Nehru road, Lucknow. Dimple graduated in commerce from Lucknow University.
Dimple Rawat met Akhilesh Yadav when she was a student. Originally Akhilesh’s family was opposed to their wed, however they agreed after Akhilesh’s grandmother Murti Devi approved. The duo obtained wed on 24 November 1999 when she was aged 21. Guests at her wedding involved film celebrity, Amitabh Bachchan & Rajesh Khanna. The duo have 2 daughters Tina & Aditi and a son Arjun.

Career Timeline
Dimple Yadav is never interested in politics. But after her marriage she had plan to be a housewife and handle the family business. She contestented her 1st election in 2009, but she lost against Congress’s Raj Babber. In 2012, Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha to enter Uttar Pradesh Legislative Counsel, after being elected as the CM of UP. He vacated the Kannauj Lok Sabha Constituency, making the way for Dimple to contest from there. She was elected unopposed in by-election from Kannauj UP.
This made her the 1st lady from Uttar Pradesh to elected unopposed in a Lok Sabha by-election, and 2nd person after Purushottam Das Tandon’s election from Allahabad West in 1952. She flatter the only woman MP whose spouse was Chief Minister, and as well one whose father-in-law was as well a member of the same House. Dimple retained Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in 2014 Indian general election. She contested as a joint participants of the Samajwadi Party & Bahujan Samaj Party in 2019 Indian general election from Kannauj, however lost to BJP with a margin of over 10,000 votes.
