About FRI MTS
The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education runs the Forest Research Institute, a Natural Resource Service training facility that serves Indian Forest Service and State Forest Service cadres in the field of forestry research. The Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy is a staff college on the Forest Research Institute campus that trains officers for the Indian Forest Service. The Forest Research Institute Dehradun began as the Imperial Forest Research Institute in 1906 and was initially located at Chandhbagh on the Mall Road. Around 1923, a much larger campus was purchase at the present location. After that, the new buildings start being built. The main building, designed by C.G. Blomfield in the style of Greco-Roman architecture, was open in 1929 by the then-Viceroy Freeman Freeman-Thomas, 1st Marquess of Willingdon. It is now a National Historic Landmark.
