Two people, including the So-Safe Corps Area Commander, Ogunrinde Sahid, were shot dead by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers in Ogun State.
The kidnappers are said to have killed two agricultural workers while abducting two other workers at a farm in Owo village, Orile-Imo, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The kidnappers, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, attacked a farm in the village, carrying more than 200 workers.
One source said that the kidnappers had attempted to kidnap several workers at the farm, but were resisted by security personnel; Although they succeeded in kidnapping two workers, killing two others.
Confirming the incident, So-Safe Corps Commander Soji Gonzalo said that his men joined the operation to save the situation after the kidnappers entered the village.
Ganzallo said a distress call was made by the DPO of the Owode Division to the Owode Area Command, that two people were killed and two abducted in Abule Awo, Orile-Imo, on Tuesday.
The Commander informed that the team of Sahid Ogunrinde went to the affected area to rescue the situation.
He said his men and policemen could not trace the kidnappers and they resumed the search on Wednesday morning, leading them to the Sagamu interchange area.
“On seeing our men, they opened fire and their bullet hit one of our men in the person of SC Martyr Ogunrinde (alias Azura) Area Operation, Owode Area Command and he died,” Ganzallo said, adding that his body was buried at his home in Ajura.
He disclosed that the rifle and phone of the deceased were taken away by the kidnappers.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi said that one suspect has been arrested and the others are being pursued.
Oyeyemi said one of those shot was taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, but the doctors did not treat him, saying “they were on strike.”
Oyeyemi said the victim died on the way to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ellison.
“Two people were shot, one died on the spot and they abducted two, but a suspect has been arrested in this case,” he said.
