Riya Sen was born on January 24, 1981 in Calcutta, West Bengal, India. Sen comes from a royal background; her father Bharat Dev Varma native from the royal family of Tripura. He was the son of Ila Devi, a princess of Cooch Behar and nephew of Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur. Sen’s mother Moon Sen and grandmother Suchitra Sen were honored veteran artist. She started her acting career when she was 5 years old, playing her mother’s daughter on screen for the 1st time. Subsequently in 1991 she appeared as a child star in the movie Vishkanya.
Her 1st trading success in her movie career was with Style, a 2001 Hindi low-budget comedy directed by N. Chandra. Some of her other notable movies plus producer Pritish Nandy’s musical movie , Jhankaar Beats (2003) in Hinglish, and Malayalam horror film Ananthabhadram (2005). She won the Star Guide Award as best actress for her acting in Noukadubi.
Sen was 1st identified as a model when she acted in Falguni Pathak’s music video Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi at the age of 17 in 1998. Since then, she has worked in music videos, tv ads, fashion shows, and on magazine covers. Sen has appeared as an activist and worked in an AIDS awareness music video with the aim of dispelling famous myths about the illness. She as well helped raise funds for pediatric eye-care and underprivileged children.
