Uxbridge’s Shendry Gymnastics celebrated a successful end to their season at the Marilyn Hayes Provincial Qualifier at the final provincial meeting of the season in early May.
“They were amazing,” said competition coach Bonnie Sampson. “We actually had a coach from another club in Richmond Hill come over and say ‘Your kids are so talented’. I said ‘I didn’t know it was a thing’.
It was the first year the facility’s gymnasts were able to compete normally in the wake of the long-awaited development, the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to a first-place finish in the team finals, Shendry’s gymnasts took several first and second-place finishes in the individual categories.
“It was so exciting and nice that we got to celebrate this together,” said 12-year-old Sally Yo, who finished first in the vault competition and third in the beam.
