Actor Sonnalli Seygall, who tied the knot with hotelier Ashesh L Sajnani in June this year, recently opened up about how she’s getting back to work after tying the knot and reflected on the success of her debut film Pyar Ka Punchnama with Nushrratt Bharruccha, Kartik Aaryan and Sunny Singh. The actor called signing Luv Ranjan’s film “the best decision” of her life and discussed how the movie turning into a successful franchise gave her career the push an actor needs when they are just starting out.
About how life has changed post marriage, Sonnalli, in an interview with indianexpress.com, shared, “Everybody has been asking me how life is after marriage, and I say it is the same, but different. It’s beautiful, better than I expected. I feel youngsters today are a little scared (of marriage), but I feel like I wish I had done this years ago. It is so beautiful, touch wood, and it is a great feeling. I feel like if it is with the right partner, then it is amazing.”
The actor was quick to get back on set after tying the knot. Sharing an update on her upcoming project, she said, “I am right now actually on a break, but I am shooting for a movie in Bhopal and we recently wrapped the first schedule and will soon start shooting the second schedule in Haryana. It’s an untitled film, but it’s based in JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University). It’s a very interesting topic, and I’m really looking forward to it because this character is something that I have not played before.”
Sonnalli Seygall started her career in 2011 with Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety are some of the most popular films she’s been a part of. So how does she look at her journey today. She said, “I look at it very fondly, and I look at it in a very blessed manner that I was a part of these films.”
Reflecting on how Pyaar Ka Punchnama happened to “a bunch of newcomers”, she added, “At the time when I was signing Pyaar Ka Punchnama, none of us sort of expected it to be such a big success. It was such a roaring success. I was like, ‘Ok, I auditioned for this film and it looks interesting, so let’s do it!’ I was very new and naive then. I had just started auditioning for films, but now when I look back, I feel it was one of the best decisions I took in my life. I chose to be associated with that camp, and the movie turned into a franchise and these were the first two films of my life. We were all newcomers. Luv sir (Ranjan) was a new director, so we had not thought in our wildest dreams that it would be such a big hit. I am very grateful for the journey, for being a working actor.”
All the actors associated with Pyaar Ka Punchnama films — Sonnalli, Kartik, Nusshratt, Sunny — were newcomers when they signed the film. However, Kartik has become one of the most successful actors from that lot who’s delivered some of the biggest hits in the last few year, including Bhool Bhuliyaa 2.

On how she feels looking at her friends, who were once her co-stars, Sonnalli said, “They were all present at my wedding. We continue being great friends. It is a great feeling to see them do so well. I am the kind of person who genuinely believes in what you give is what you get. I know it sounds very spiritual, but I really believe in it. I believe that if I wish well for others, good things will happen for me as well. If I have envy, jealousy, or if I wish for their downfall, then it will happen to me as well. So I am always happy for people. I want to uplift people. I don’t want to bring them down. I have seen their journey and I have seen how hard they have worked for where they have reached. We all have worked hard. If you see someone not working hard and still be successful, then you feel they don’t deserve it. But Kartik, Nushrratt have really worked hard, very hard. Sunny, Luv Sir, Abhishek Pathak were all first-timers when we did Pyar Ka Punchnama. So when Abishek delivers a Drishyam 2, of course I am happy for him, or when Luv sir does Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, then it makes me extremely happy.”
Recalling how her co-star turned friend Kartik Aaryan would travel for auditions by Mumbai locals during his struggling days, Sonnalli said, “They have worked very hard. I have seen them making it big from scratch. I know about Kartik. He used to come from Vashi in a local (Mumbai train) for auditions. Nushrratt and I have had nights of conversations about what kind of work we want to do. I sent a big love letter to Nushrratt the day I saw Akelli’s trailer. For every film, we congratulate each other. I know some films are good and some films are not, but we support each other. It makes me believe that if it is possible for them, it is possible for me as well. It gives me hope.”
Sonnalli Seygall will soon be seen in Noorani Chehra. She has two other projects in her kitty.
